Jason Mraz Finds Inspiration In A T-Shirt

For immediate release

Musician Interviews Founder of Kevala, A New Charity-driven Athletic Apparel Line.

SAN DIEGO, CA, 6-3-14 — What does it take to pull a busy musician away from a new album launch? For Jason Mraz, it was the chance to learn more about Kevala, a new athletic apparel company that is pushing to reach financing goals on Indiegogo. Mraz recently sat down with Kevala founder Keith Donohue to talk about the inspiration behind Kevala’s charity-driven business model and unique ReflectNow line of t-shirts, tanks and towels.

In the interview, Donohue describes how the Kevala concept evolved from a five month road trip spent volunteering in all 50 states (plus Canada, the District of Columbia and Mexico). Donohue realized he could continue to help all the people he met along the way by launching a business that included an automatic donation-with-purchase component. As an avid athlete and yogi, Donohue dreamed up the perfect athletic shirt to sell: made from sustainable materials, totally comfortable, and able to inspire each wearer to stay active, stay in the moment, and think beyond the yoga mat.

“All I can do is donate my time, and give back, somehow. When you lose your sense of self, all that’s left is love.” And that’s what Kevala is all about, says Donohue. So a portion of every Kevala purchase goes to one of 53 non-profit organizations across North America. But the love doesn’t stop there. Every ReflectNow by Kevala shirt features an inspirational word such as “breathe” written in reverse on the front- so you can read it as you practice tree pose or do squats in front of the mirror. It’s written forwards on the back of the garment, so everyone else in the room can find inspiration, too.

Mraz is no stranger to charitable causes – he launched the Jason Mraz Foundation in 2011, which works to advance equality, promote the arts, support education and preserve the environment. A kindred spirit, Donohue works on his own charitable adventures through his company, Positive Present.

Introducing ReflectNow by Kevala: The Perfect Blend of Function, Fashion, and Charity

Introducing ReflectNow by Kevala:
The Perfect Blend of Function, Fashion, and Charity

New Athletic Apparel Line Inspires Reflection, In the Gym and Beyond.

SAN DIEGO, CA, 5-14-14 — New athletic apparel line Kevala wants you to put in some serious mirror time—at the gym or in the yoga studio, of course. The company’s new line of ReflectNow t-shirts and tanks are designed to inspire each wearer to stay active, stay in the moment, and think beyond the yoga mat. How does one high-performance shirt do all that?

  • Function: Every ReflectNow by Kevala shirt features an inspirational word on the front, such as “breathe,” “strength” or “love.” It’s written backwards so you can read it as you practice tree pose or do squats in front of the mirror. The same word is written forwards on the back of the garment, so everyone else in the room can find inspiration, too. Kevala hopes to incorporate peronalized sayings in the future.
  • Fabric: Kevala’s custom fabric is a blend of organic cotton and Lyocell, which is sustainably sourced from eucalyptus trees. A splash of Spandex gives every garment the stretch and shape-keeping properties needed to keep athletes comfortable through every workout.
  • Charity: A portion of every Kevala purchase goes to one of 53 non-profit organizations across North America. The donation is built into the price of each garment – shoppers simply choose which charity their purchase will benefit.

“We are making multi-functional apparel – not just another tank or tee,” said Kevala founder Keith Donohue. “ReflectNow apparel by Kevala inspires people to reach their goals, lose their sense self, and love others.” Donohue’s ultimate goal is to provide elite athletic apparel that also quietly asks athletes to be more mindful of what they are wearing: What does it reflect? What is it made of? And who does it help? A touching video illustrating this mission can be found through Kevala’s Indiegogo campaign here.

The Kevala concept evolved from one of Donohue’s other charitable adventures, 50Give, where he spent nearly 5 months traveling to all 50 states (plus Canada, the District of Columbia and Mexico) to volunteer at different non-profit organizations. Both Kevala and 50Give are a part of Donohue’s larger do-good organization, Positive Present.

New Yoga Apparel Line Gets Wearers In Motion and Inspired

For immediate release

New Yoga Apparel Line Gets Wearers In Motion and Inspired

Yoga apparel line Kevala blends function, fashion, and charity into every t-shirt and tank top.

SAN DIEGO, CA, 5-5-14 — New athletic apparel line Kevala is aiming to change the business paradigm by instilling its overarching “intention of inspiration” into everything it does. Each garment in the Kevala collection – which right now consists of men’s t-shirts, women’s tank tops, and unisex branded yoga towels – inspires wearers in three ways:

  • Function: Kevala is most noted for its creative use of graphics: On the front of every t-shirt or tank top is an inspirational word such as “breathe” or “strength,” written backwards so that the wearer can read it in the mirror of his or her gym or yoga studio. The same word is written forwards on the back of the garment, so anyone else in the room may be inspired as well.
  • Fabric: Kevala’s custom fabric is a blend of organic cotton and Lyocell, which is sustainably sourced from eucalyptus trees. A splash of highly performing Spandex gives every garment the stretching and shape-keeping properties yogis and athletes have come to expect from today’s fitness apparel.
  • Charity: A portion of every Kevala purchase goes to one of 53 non-profit organizations across North America. The donation is built into the price of each garment – shoppers simply choose which charity their purchase will benefit.

Through these three pillars, Kevala is revolutionizing the way consumerism works. It is providing elite yoga and athletic apparel, while also quietly asking today’s yogis and athletes to be more mindful of what they are wearing: What does it reflect? What is it made of? And who does it help? A touching video illustrating this mission can be found through Kevala’s Indiegogo campaign, here  (http://igg.me/at/kevalawear/x/6789323).

“I want to revolutionize local and interest giving in North America and beyond,” said Kevala founder, Keith Donohue. “My goal is to make joy our normal state of being: Joy through helping others, joy in remembering to slow down and breathe, joy in being a part of something bigger.” The Kevala concept evolved from one of Donohue’s other charitable adventures, 50Give, where he spent nearly 5 months traveling to all 50 states (plus Canada, the District of Columbia and Mexico) to volunteer at different non-profit organizations. Donate to Charity By Practicing Your Downward Dog

New athletic apparel line launches a 50 studio Yoga Crawl in San Diego

SAN DIEGO, CA, 4-14-14 — Yogis, athletes and even total beginners are invited to join the Kevala Yoga Crawl, a series of donation classes taking place at 50 different studios across San Diego and Orange County over the next 50 days. It’s a chance to meet new people, explore new studios and practice your asanas off. But most importantly, every donation will help support Kevala’s 50+ partner charities across the country and beyond.

The lineup of classes, spanning dates throughout April and May, includes hot spots like Bird Rock Yoga in Pacific Beach, Trilogy Sanctuary in La Jolla and even Paddle Board Bliss in Laguna. Participants who attend 5 or more Kevala donation classes can enter a grand prize drawing for a three day yoga retreat for two at Calliote Canyon, a private estate in Ojai. To enter, simply:

  • Attend 5 or more Kevala donation classes
  • Share a photo from your donation class or write a post about it, tagging the studio and #Kevala

The winner will be chosen at Kevala’s June 8th launch party at Belly Up in Solana Beach. Everyone is invited to join Kevala and the San Diego yoga community for a fashion show, live music, raffle prizes and wellness vendors. Tickets are $15 online or $25 at the door, VIP Lounge for $50. Doors open at 5pm – online ticketing now live.

Keval is a new athletic apparel line featuring signature t-shirts with positive affirmations written in mirror-reversed text on the front (so you can read it while looking at your reflection in yoga class) and regular text on the back (so your classmates get affirmed, too). Every Kevala purchase includes an automatic donation to a non-profit that founder Keith Donohue personally volunteered with on his 5 month 50Give tour. Both Kevala and 50Give are a part of Donohue’s larger do-good organization, Positive Present.

Kevala Press Release: Kevala Aims to Change the World

Press Release
For immediate release

Kevala Aims To Change The World, One T-shirt (And Wacky Launch Video) At A Time.

New company raising funds to launch charity-driven athletic apparel line.

SAN DIEGO, CA, 4-13-14 — What do Adam Levine, a spandex tiger, and yoga class all have in common? Not much, unless you’ve seen Kevala’s new launch video. In it, founder Keith Donohue (a dead ringer for the Maroon 5 frontman) does headstands (literally) to introduce his new athletic apparel line—a series of signature t-shirts that feature positive affirmations written in mirror-reversed text on the front (so you can read it while looking at your reflection in yoga class) and regular text on the back (so your classmates get affirmed, too).

But the postive energy doesn’t stop there. Every Kevala purchase or Indiegogo campaign pledge includes an automatic donation to one of 50+ charities that Donohue has personally volunteered with. It’s a unique concept, which Donohue is promoting with some unique tactics, including a 50 studio yoga crawl across San Diego and his Indiegogo campaign, where contributors can be repaid with Kevala gear, virtual hugs, or a copy of Adam Levine’s tatoos on Donohue’s body.

“I want to revolutionize local and interest giving in North America and beyond,” said Donohue. Both Kevala and 50Give are a part of Donohue’s larger do-good organization, Positive Present.

So where does the spandex tiger come in? It’s a nod to one of Kevala’s three main corporate pillars:

  • Functionality – Offering high quality athletic apparel that transcends the physical with unique affirmations
  • Giving – Supporting non-profits in every state, as well as D.C., Canada and Mexico, with every purchase
  • Sustainability – Using only the best, most earth-friendly materials possible

That means Kevala apparel is made with a unique blend of Tencel (Lyocell), a biodegradable material from eucalyptus trees; organic cotton; and, of course, a splash of spandex.
